Apparently my lifelong aversion to sandwiches was actually due to an orthodontic problem. Took my mother years to accept that I wasn't going to eat the sandwiches but I would eat saltines and cheddar. And generally I didn't eat the rest of the lunches either because I was trying to find ways to get rid of all that sandwich without the lunch ladies yelling at me.
